June Conference Series

Conferences

In 2004 the EUROFRAME group of Research Institutes launched its annual June Conference Series on Economic Policy Issues in the European Union. Between 2001 and 2004 EUROFRAME organized November Conference Series to discuss the current state and short-term prospects of the euro area economy.

The aim of the June Conference is to discuss topical economic policy issues for the European Union bringing together academics, economists from independent research institutes, national government administration, European and international institutions. Papers are selected through a submission procedure.

EUROFRAME Conference June 2024

Economic Policies amid Increasing Geopolitical Fragmentation

Friday 7 June, hosted by Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Kiel, Germany

20TH EUROFRAME CONFERENCE
on economic policy issues in the European Union

The global economic order seems to be undergoing a fundamental transformation, which is characterised by growing competition between China, Europe, and the United States and a shift from a rules-based to a more power-based system, while geopolitical conflicts are taking place in a highly interdependent world economy. The 20th EUROFRAME Conference will focus on the challenges to European economies from the new geopolitical environment. How can Europe improve economic resilience and avoid dangerous dependencies, safeguard competitiveness and rules-based trade? What will be the costs of decoupling, what are the risks with respect to achieving the goals of digital and green transformation? What is the role of European and global institutions in guiding national economic policy initiatives?

Keynote by Moritz Schularick (Kiel Institute, Sciences Po and CEPR)

EUROFRAME Conference June 2023

The Return of Inflation: Challenges for European Economies

Friday 9 June, hosted by OFCE, Paris, France

19TH EUROFRAME CONFERENCE
on economic policy issues in Europe

The 19th Conference will focus on the macroeconomic policy challenges for European economies of high inflation. Is the current high inflation a temporary phenomenon or does it represent a change of regime? Who should bear the impacts of rising energy prices? What are the impacts on the green transition? Will it lead to new tensions in the labour market? Wage indexation: should it be restored or abandoned? What economic policies should be employed to tackle inflation and limit its social consequences? Is monetary policy to blame? How will it affect central banks getting out of QE? And what will be the effect of the high inflation on public debt?

EUROFRAME Conference June 2022

Macroeconomic policy challenges in pandemic times

Friday 3 June, hosted by ETLA Economic Research, Helsinki, Finland

18TH EUROFRAME CONFERENCE
on economic policy issues in the European Union

The 18th Conference will focus on the macroeconomic policy challenges for European economies and advanced economies more widely in pandemic times. Since the Covid-19 pandemic emerged in early 2020, fiscal and monetary policies have provided support to an unprecedented extent in peace times. In late 2021, increasing inflation, accelerated by bottlenecks in the supply-side as output recovers, raise challenges for policymakers. How should fiscal and monetary policies be adjusted to ensure a sound recovery without generating imbalances? Public debts are now higher than they were before the Covid-19 crisis, while interest rates remain historically low. In the longer term, how can public debt sustainability be ensured, while addressing the need for green investments to tackle climate change?
